Ítem Online reputation of agri-food companies and determining factors: an empirical investigation(Springer Nature, 2023-03-15) Fernández-Uclés, Domingo; Mozas-Moral, Adoración; Bernal-Jurado, Enrique; Puentes-Poyatos, RaquelIn an increasingly technology-oriented society, companies should ensure not only that they have an Internet presence but also that they are conveying the right image. According to the resource-based view, online reputation is a key intangible asset for successful technological business change. The aim of this research is to analyze the online reputation of companies in the agri-food sector, identifying the factors that have an impact on it. For this purpose, fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis is used. The results show that online reputation is conditioned by legal form and attributes associated with the company website. Such attributes include website quality, the presence of information associated with corporate social responsibility, the use of a secure connection, and the sale of organic products. The results provide strategic guidelines for public and private decision makers to exploit the full potential of ICTs.Ítem Improving e-economy by regional governments(Emerald, 2014-05-13) Chavea Ávila, Rafael; Bernal-Jurado, Enrique; Mozas-Moral, Adoración; Puentes-Poyatos, RaquelPurpose The purpose of this paper is to analyse and assess a government support programme for business innovation in a very peripherical European region: the Spanish region of Andalucía. Design/methodology/approach Endogenous development approach is used to categorize the main public and private actions included in the government ICT support programme. Cross-time analysis has been carried out by using three territorial indicators of diffusion and effective use of ICT: the physical aspect, refereed to the infrastructures used as a base for the information society development (infrastructures, technology and equipment); the actors and their degree of organization (firms present on the internet and support organizations and institutions); and knowledge, refereed to the technological sprawl and the entrepreneurship capacity (fostering innovation and training among the general population and businesses). Findings The study confirms that the public policies implemented are coherent with the endogenous development approach, where investment in physical and human capital have been accompanied by enabling measures of interaction between firms and other economical agents (universities, business associations, business centres and technology institutes, etc.), with a view to favouring the dissemination of innovations and knowledge among firms. Secondly, the research assess the impact of this ICT programme, both in terms of economic growth and per capita income, as well as on the main variables that reflect the degree of business participation in the Information Society. Results show that, during the period 1996-2010, this region has made important progress in terms of convergence with more advanced European regions. Research limitations/implications The study has methodological implications in terms of designs of further ICT programmes in less developed European regions to broke the digital divide. Practical implications Recent outlooks of the OECD call for more assessment research on ICT national and regional policies around the world, especially those that prove that it is possible to broke the international digital divide. The present study suggests that public policies following the directives laid down by the endogenous development approach can reach this economic and social target. The Andalucía Information Society Programme constitutes a real commitment and private-public partnership towards a structural change in the technological culture amongst businesses. Investment in physical capital and human capital has been accompanied by measures that enable the interaction of firms with other economic agents (university, business associations, technology centres, etc.), with a view to favouring the dissemination of innovation and knowledge among firms. Originality/value The study uses for the first time the endogenous development approach applied to a less advanced region for evaluation of ICT policy and it improves a methodology based on this approach to assess its effectiveness.Ítem Influencing Aspects for Online Sales: An Analysis of 2nd-degree Olive Cooperative Societies in Spain(Tomas Bata University in Zlín, 2023-12) Bernal-Jurado, Enrique; Fernández-Uclés, Domingo; Mozas-Moral, Adoración; Puentes-Poyatos, RaquelSpain occupies an important strategic position in the olive oil world market, accounting for 49.92% of world production and 71.49% of European Union production for the 2020-2021 season. These data reveal a situation of leadership and marked specialization which, however, does not translate into real benefits for the sector. Despite this leadership on the supply side, the Spanish olive oil sector has been characterized by the sub-standard marketing of its oils, mainly in bulk. In this context, information and communication technologies (ICTs) in general and the Internet in particular are tools with the potential to restructure the commercial functioning of the sector. This paper addresses the problem of the necessary market orientation of the Spanish olive sector, focusing attention on e-commerce as a means of access to the final market. Thus, the aim of this study is to identify the key factors that can stimulate a higher level of online invoicing by the sector's second tier cooperatives. In order to achieve this objective, qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) has been used. The results indicate that online sales are affected, in a high percentage, by several factors, including online reputation, management training and internationalization, as well as the offer of ecological products and the degree of cooperative integration.Ítem Online Communication of Sustainability in the Social Economy: a comparative study(Universidad de Huelva, 2024-08-09) Puentes-Poyatos, Raquel; Mozas-Moral, Adoración; Bernal-Jurado, EnriqueSpain is the world leader in olive oil production. The aim of this article is to analyze the type of non-financial information (CSR) that companies in the sector disseminate on their websites and the factors that explain a greater online dissemination. The fsQCA methodology is applied. The results indicate that companies focus on communicating the knowledge generated on aspects related to food safety and that the dissemination of CSR is affected by factors such as having a commercial orientation towards the online market, having channels of interactivity with stakeholders and offering organic/ecological products.Ítem Family firms as incubators for ethical behavior: An exploratory study from the perspective of stewardship theory(Cambridge University Press, 2014-12-16) Vallejo-Martos, Manuel Carlos; Puentes-Poyatos, RaquelThis work aims to determine whether family firms have differential characteristics that make them better incubators for ethical behavior from the perspective of stewardship theory. Results show that the psychological and situational factors that stewardship theory points to as determinants in the construction of principal–steward relationships are more evident in family firms than in non-family firms. The objective of this study is to analyze what factors affect the online reputation of companies in the agri-food sector, taking the Spanish wine sector as a case study. The methodology used to achieve this objective was Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA), in its fuzzy sets variant (fsQCA). The results show that those companies more oriented towards the digital market and with a higher level of communication of their Corporate Social Responsibility practices have a higher reputation among stakeholders. This advantage is increased if in addition they are larger companies or have a larger Governing Board.Ítem UNRAVELING THE BLACK BOX OF SUPPLY CHAIN FLEXIBILITY IN LEAN PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENTS(Emeral Publishing Limited, 2024) Minguela Rata, Beatriz; Maqueira Marín, Juan Manuel; Rojo-Gallego Burín, Araceli; Moyano-Fuentes, JoséAbstract Purpose This study aims to examine the full mediating role of supply chain flexibility (SCF) between lean production (LP) and business performance (BP) found in the previous literature. This effect negates the direct LP-BP effect (the so-called “total eclipse effect”). The authors analyze the individual contributions that the different SCF dimensions (sourcing flexibility; operating system flexibility, distribution flexibility and information system [IS] flexibility) make to the “total eclipse effect” between LP and BP produced by SCF. The relational resources-based view and resource orchestration theory are used to support the theoretical framework. Design/methodology/approach Covariance-based structural equations modeling (CB-SEM) is used to test the SCF LP-BP total eclipse hypothesis and four additional mediation hypotheses, one for each of the SCF dimensions. Data obtained via a questionnaire given to 260 companies are analyzed with CB-SEM, and SPSS Process is used to evaluate the mediation effect. Findings Research results indicate that only one of the dimensions (operating system flexibility) has a full mediation effect between LP and BP and is, therefore, the main contributor to the eclipse effect. Two other dimensions (sourcing flexibility and distribution flexibility) have partial mediation effects, so they also contribute to developing the eclipse effect, although to a lesser extent. Finally, IS flexibility is neither a full nor a partial mediation factor and does not contribute to the eclipse effect. Originality/value These findings have some important implications. For academia, they generate new knowledge of the role that each of the SCF dimensions or components plays in the LP-BP relationship. For company management, the findings offer supply chain managers specific information on the individual effects that the different types of SCF flexibility have between LP and BP. This will allow companies to target their efforts to develop certain types of flexibility in LP contexts depending on the outcomes that senior managers want to achieve with their SCs.Ítem Information and Digital Technologies of Industry 4.0 and Lean supply chain management: a systematic literature review(Taylor & Francis, 2020) Núñez Merino, Miguel; Maqueira Marín, Juan Manuel; Moyano Fuentes, José; Martínez Jurado, PedroThe purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the current state of research and the key aspects and implications of the relationships between Information and Digital Technologies (IDT) of Industry 4.0 and Lean Supply Chain Management (LSCM), with the identification of the lines of research developed and an analysis of the main findings. A Systematic Literature Review methodology has been used for the identification, selection, and evaluation of the published research. A set of 78 papers deduced from the most relevant scientific databases, including Web of Science, Scopus, and ABI/Inform, from 1996 to December 2019, has been analyzed and synthesized. The analysis and evaluation of these papers has enabled a new classification of the literature to be offered that identifies four lines of research based on the Life Cycle of Technology: obsolete IDT in LSCM; mature IDT in LSCM; emerging IDT in LSCM; and an Information Systems and IDT general approach in LSCM. The paper goes on to discuss the gaps found in the literature and proposes new opportunities and challenges for future research. A series of implications are presented intended to be useful from not only an academic point-of-view but also from a management focus, including recommendations for industrial managers and policymakers.Ítem Real-time energy flow mapping: A VSM-based proposal for energy efficiency(Elsevier, 2023-07-10) Fontoura, Leonardo; de Mattos Nascimento, Daniel Luiz; Neto, Julio Vieira; Garcia-Buendia, Noelia; Garza-Reyes, Jose Arturo; Lima, Gilson Brito Alves; Tortorella, Guilherme Luz; Caiado, Rodrigo Goyannes Gusmão; Meiriño, Marcelo JasmimRising energy costs and the current concern about sustainability issues directly impact the competitiveness and survival of organizations, promoting the search for continuous improvement in industrial production processes. The present study, by identifying the absence in the literature of models based on Value Stream Mapping and integrated with Industry 4.0 technologies that promote better energy efficiency practices in industrial processes, proposes a new Lean Management model called Real-time Energy Flow Mapping. This innovative model, provide capabilities to a visual, digital and sustainable management system of all energy behavior in machines and equipment using fully parameterizable metrics and rules. Also, estimulating stakeholders with the ability to predict and monitor energy costs, as well as identify possible problems due to changes in the behavior of energy consumption in machines, thus helping managers to make decisions faster and more dynamically. As a result, the literature search turned up 17 Value Stream Mapping based models with a focus on energy efficiency, along with 31 metrics grouped on energy, environmental and production processes. After discussions by the Focus Groups, 16 resulting metrics were submitted to expert panel, in which the least relevant were discarded and the 13 most relevant classified using Fuzzy Delphi. An analysis to verify the interrelationships between the metrics is performed using the Fuzzy DEMATEL, being finally applied in the proposed model. A case study of the model was carried out, submitting it operationally at the LabFaber 4.0, empirically validating the study. The Real Time Energy Flow Map fills the gap in the literature on Value Stream Mapping models to improve energy efficiency, monitoring energy consumption through dynamic mapping of the energy flow of production processes, identifying the area with increased potential for energy savings through changes in operating behavior that reduce overall energy consumption and environmental impacts.Ítem The Lean Supply Chain Management response to technology uncertainty: consequences for operational performance and competitiveness(Emerald, 2022-11-21) Garcia-Buendia, Noelia; Moyano-Fuentes, José; Maqueira-Marín, Juan Manuel; Avella, LucíaPurpose – This study aims to analyze the Lean Supply Chain Management (LSCM) strategy’s role as a mechanism to address technology uncertainty and provide organizations with competitive advantage. Design/methodology/approach – An empirical study was conducted of 276 Spanish focal firms in industrial sectors that occupy an intermediate position in the supply chain to investigate the influence of technology uncertainty on LSCM implementation and the latter’s effect on operational performance and competitiveness. A covariance-based structural equation model (CB-SEM) was used to test three hypotheses. Findings – Technological uncertainty encourages progress in the implementation of lean throughout the supply chain and so is a mechanism that not only brings stability to the focal company but also improves its performance and puts it in a better competitive position. Practical implications – Managers are suggested to consider the strategic integration with supply chain partners and the establishment of long-term relationships based on trust and commitment advocated by LSCM to enhance organizations’ capabilities and effectively and flexibly respond to technological changes. Originality – This study focuses on the effects of environmental uncertainty on the supply chain. The past literature has focused on the behavior of individual firms to deal with uncertainty but this work shifts the level of analysis to the supply chain. Therefore, the strategic change to deal with what is happening in the environment is now switched to the supply chain level.Ítem Strategic supplier performance in a competitive landscape: Enhancing organizational performance through lean supply chain management(Sage, 2023-11-14) Garcia-Buendia, Noelia; Moyano-Fuentes, José; Maqueira-Marín, Juan Manuel; Romano, Pietro; Molinaro, MargheritaIn a context characterized by increasing competitive pressure, supply chain collaboration has gained greater relevance and lean principles have been integrated into supply chain management to address the challenge of achieving better organizational performance. The purpose of this study is to understand the roles of strategic supplier performance and competitive intensity in Lean Supply Chain Management (LSCM) implementation and its performance. We use a variance-based Structural Equation Model analysis with empirical data from a sample of 273 Spanish companies to analyze the relationships among strategic suppliers, competitive intensity, LSCM implementation, and performance. Our findings indicate that strategic supplier performance is positively associated with LSCM implementation and that this relationship is heightened in highly competitive industries. Our results also reveal the indirect association of LSCM implementation in the strategic supplier performance-organizational performance relationship.Ítem Squaring circular supply chain management: A comprehensive overview of emerging themes and trends(Wiley, 2024-08-13) Garcia-Buendia, Noelia; Nuñez-Merino, Miguel; Moyano-Fuentes, José; Maqueira-Marín, Juan ManuelCircular supply chain management (CSCM) is the revolutionary integration of circular principles into supply chain management and the supply chain environment to achieve zero waste and outperform traditional supply chain sustainability models in advancing supply chain circularity. This study examines CSCM and the corresponding literature to highlight key research themes and trends. An advanced iteration of the Systematic Science Mapping analysis methodology has been designed and implemented with a Named Entity Recognition approach to extract relevant information from scientific articles. Key themes are revealed such as essential capabilities for circularity in the supply chain, circular business models, sustainable supplier selection and blockchain technology's role. The article gives insights into current research and identifies emerging trends in CSCM. This exploration aims to provide a nuanced understanding of CSCM's transformative power and shed light on its practical implications.Ítem Planteamiento de un modelo de evaluación de Lean Supply Chain Management(Universidad de Jaén, 2019) Garcia-Buendia, Noelia; Moyano-Fuentes, José; Maqueira-Marín, Juan ManuelThis paper proposes a model for evaluating lean supply chain management performance, based on the most commonly used performance indicators in the literature. The starting point is a Systematic Literature Review previously carried out by the authors, in order to identify the indicators that have received the most consensus, and a classification is made according to their nature, depending on whether it is operational, financial or market-based. The purpose of this model is to serve as a basis for the elaboration of a Balanced Scorecard model. Thus, a theoretical model is proposed to evaluate the results derived from lean supply chain management, grouping the indicators into approaches or perspectives of interest so that managers can guide their decision-making, similar to a balanced scorecard.Ítem Performance measurement of lean supply chain management: a balanced scorecard proposal(Taylor & Francis, 2022-09-28) Garcia-Buendia, Noelia; Kristensen, Thomas Borup; Moyano-Fuentes, José; Maqueira-Marín, Juan ManuelThe purpose of this paper is to propose a performance measurement framework to evaluate Lean Supply Chain Management (LSCM) performance. A literature review was performed to identify the main goals and performance indicators in LSCM. A questionnaire was designed that included the identified goals and measures. Next, based on data collected from international academics and practitioners with expertise in LSCM, a two-stage Delphi study using Fuzzy Delphi and Fuzzy DEMATEL methods was carried out to refine the most relevant goals and metrics and their interrelationships and establish benchmark values that are useful for managers to evaluate the performance achieved through the deployment of lean principles, practices, and techniques throughout the supply chain. Finally, an integrated performance measurement framework based on the balanced scorecard approach is proposed with a discussion of the academic and practical implications of the proposed framework.Ítem Mapping the Lean Supply Chain Management research through Citation Classics(Emerald, 2021-06-22) Garcia-Buendia, Noelia; Moyano-Fuentes, José; Maqueira-Marín, Juan ManuelPurpose. The purpose of this study is to examine how a focal firm’s supply relationships influence Lean Supply Chain Management (LSCM) implementation and its impact on operational performance. Design/methodology/approach. An empirical study of 285 Spanish focal firms has explored the relationships between supply uncertainty, strategic supplier performance, LSCM implementation, and operational performance. A structural equation model (SEM) was utilized to test four hypotheses. Findings. The results indicate that supply uncertainty and strategic supplier performance significantly impact on the decision to implement LSCM. The findings highlight the importance of strategic supplier performance for driving LSCM adoption. However, the study also suggests that LSCM implementation should be carefully considered in situations characterized by high supply uncertainty. Practical implications. The study suggests that enhancing LSCM implementation and improving performance from key suppliers are crucial factors in achieving favorable operational performance in focal firms. Practitioners receive guidance on aligning their supply relationships, considering contextual factors, and leveraging strategic supplier performance to drive effective LSCM implementation. Originality. This study offers novel insights by examining the antecedents to LSCM implementation from a contingency and relational perspective specifically focused on the context of supply relationships. This research contributes to the existing body of knowledge on supply chain management by shedding light on the interplay between supply uncertainty, strategic supplier performance, LSCM implementation, and operational performance.Ítem A bibliometric study of Lean Supply Chain Management research: 1996-2020(Taylor & Francis, 2021-11-27) Garcia-Buendia, Noelia; Moyano-Fuentes, José; Maqueira-Marín, Juan ManuelLean Supply Chain Management is an emerging research field in Operations Management that is attracting growing attention from researchers and practitioners. This paper aims to present a comprehensive analysis of the Lean Supply Chain Management literature to understand the influence, basic research characteristics, interrelationships, and productivity of the research in this field. The present study uses BibExcel and VOSviewer software to conduct thorough bibliometric and network analyses of 715 papers published in the Web of Science database over the period 1996-2020. The use of bibliometric methods has enabled the identification of current and emerging research clusters to detect some key research topics, interrelations, and collaboration patterns. Moreover, this analysis has enabled to draw numerous conclusions and propose a roadmap for future research in the field. This paper, therefore, provides some new insights not previously evaluated in other reviews of Lean Supply Chain Management that can help researchers to understand the evolution of research trends through a proposed classification of the literature on this topic.Ítem 22 Years of Lean Supply Chain Management: a science mapping-based bibliometric analysis(Taylor & Francis, 2020-07-28) Garcia-Buendia, Noelia; Moyano-Fuentes, José; Maqueira-Marín, Juan Manuel; Cobo, M.J.This article examines how the research into Lean Supply Chain Management (LSCM) has evolved over the period 1996-2018 with the identification of the main issues explored and future trends. A performance bibliometric analysis has been conducted through a study of published documents, citations, journal impact factor, h-index, most cited papers and authors, and data on the geographic distribution of publications. More relevantly, a science mapping analysis has been performed with SciMAT bibliometric analysis software using co-word networks in a longitudinal overview. The large number of studies of LSCM published has enabled a conceptual evolution map to be constructed of the way that this research has developed. The results have enabled us to identify four thematic areas in the LSCM field: Methods, Key factors, Internal efficiency, and Performance.
