Ítem Addressing regional tourism policy: Tools for sustainable destination management(SAGE, 2024-10) Barreal, Jesús; Vena, Julio; Mercadé, PerePolicymakers need to develop measures to counter overcrowding and relocate excess tourism in congested areas to others with fewer visitors. This article proposes a methodological framework consisting of a survey and statistical tools to a gain deeper understanding of tourist profiles and characteristics and determine how covariates affect the ratio of each group in the market. Spatial analysis is performed to determine regional cluster patterns and propose measures aimed at alleviating congested areas by redirecting tourism to other destinations with less pressure without losing the economic impact of tourism. The proposed methodology is applied to international tourists in Spain and reveals some relevant aspects of four international tourism profiles. How to finance sustainable tourism: Factors influencing the attitude and willingness to pay green taxes among university students(AIMS Press, 2024-10) Ortega-Rodríguez, Cristina; Vena, Julio; Barreal, Jesús; Józefowicz, BarbaraGreen taxes are an instrument for the development of many destinations where overtourism generates different externalities, helping to alleviate them and create sustainable tourism. Funds raised through green taxes can be used to finance conservation, environmental restoration, and sustainable development initiatives. However, these taxes are often unknown to tourists visiting a city and can often generate mistrust and even discomfort when they are forced to pay them. In terms of the management implications for destinations, green taxes should be seen and conveyed as a means to achieve both economic and environmental sustainability of destinations and not yet another tax to be borne by the tourist. For this reason, the aim of this study is to explore the factors that affect both the positive attitude and the willingness to pay these taxes. Thus, the opinion about green taxes of 120 university students from different countries were collected to use a structural equation model (SEM) to try to provide answers to the different hypotheses put forward. Young people represent a growing part of the tourism market, shaping the trends and practices of the sector, making them central to the future of tourism. The study seeks to deepen theoretical knowledge on this subject and to provide a series of conclusions and recommendations for education regarding green taxes. In addition, our study on green taxes has a direct relationship with the sustainable development goals promulgated by the United Nations, as both seek to promote balanced economic, social, and environmental development.Ítem The use of a semi-qualitative methodology in food tourism re- search: Different ways to satisfy a highly demanding tourist(Varna University of Management, 2024-08) Parrilla, Juan Antonio; Vena, Julio; Barreal, JesúsWhen it comes to revitalizing rural areas and securing their population, food tourism can play a useful role. As such, there is a need for an in-depth analysis of the characteristics of the food tourism market, in order to better tailor it to tourists' demands. Accordingly, this paper centres on the analysis of satisfaction as a tool for better understanding these tourists and ensuring the tourism offer is appropriately oriented towards the elements that influence their satisfaction. To do so, this paper takes a subsector within this niche market and conducts a survey of food tourists, yielding a total of 489 responses. A semi-qualitative model is applied to those responses, with the sample divided into domestic and international tourists. The results show that international tourists' satisfaction relates to a comprehensive offer of activities, while the potential offer for domestic tourists is more flexible. These results can help to better understand the complex behaviour of tourists who engage in this type of tourism and to design adequate strategies to ensure their satisfaction, involving the provision of different sets of activities that take into account different tourist segments.
