Two of these concepts, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) and Digital Twins (DTs), have gained significant attention from various stakeholders, e.g., researchers, industry practitioners, and governmental organizations. Both are vital to support the digitalisation of products, machines, and systems, and they focus on the integration of physical and cyber processes, where one affects the other through feedback loops. Having this in mind, this paper aims to better understand how CPS and DT are correlated, particularly exploring their similarities and differences, their positioning within the Industry 4.0 paradigm, and their convergence to develop Industry 4.0 solutions. In recent years, many authors have focused their efforts on making proposals for the design and implementation of CPS based on different digital technologies. However, the comparative evaluation of these I4.0 solutions is complex, since there is no uniform criterion when it comes to defining the test scenarios and the metrics to assess them. This paper presents a technology-independent CPS demonstrator for benchmarking I4.0 solutions. To that end, a set of testing scenarios, Key Performance Indicators and services were defined considering the available automation cells setup. As a result, system complexity is shifting more and more towards the software side. Quality characteristics such as flexibility, maintain-ability, and extensibility, whose importance is increasing in the context of Industry 4.0, are thus becoming harder to achieve. These challenges can only be solved through sound architectural design. While there is a common understanding of good software architecture and appropriate methods to achieve it in computer science, a suitable architecture definition for automation software that takes all relevant factors into account is still missing in the field of CPPS. Therefore, based on a workshop with international scientists with different perspectives on CPPS, this paper presents influencing factors on automation software architecture. On this basis, a joint definition for software architecture in CPPS, as well as challenges and future research potentials, are derived.Ítem Towards the generic integration of agent-based AASs and Physical Assets: a four-layered architecture approach(IEEE, 2021-07) López, Alejandro; Casquero, Oskar; Estévez, Elisabet; Leitao, Paulo; Marcos, MargaThe I4.0 Component is a key concept of the Platform Industrie 4.0 initiative. The I4.0 Component is made up of an asset performing services and an Asset Administration Shell (AAS) representing the asset in the system. I4.0 Components must meet the requirements of interoperability, identification, representation, information management, integration, and asset management. Industrial agents are a suitable approach to implement I4.0 Components since they meet these requirements and provide additional features such as distributed decision-making capabilities. Nevertheless, the development of generic approaches for the integration of AASs and assets is not straightforward due to the diversity of physical assets in the factories. This paper proposes a four-layered architecture for the implementation of I4.0 Components based on industrial agents, two in the agent-based AAS and the other two in the physical asset. The division into layers enhances the separation of concerns, encapsulating the different integration aspects at different abstraction levels. This approach is complementary to the standard IEEE 2660.1-2020 on recommended practices for industrial agents, which focuses on the deployment of the interface between the agent and the physical asset. As a proof of concept, the proposed architecture will be applied for the integration of a software agent and a robot from an assembly cell, aiming to create an I4.0 Component.Ítem VarApp: Variant Management App for IEC 61131-3 Compliant Legacy Software(2020-05) Fischer, Juliane; Vogel-Heuser, Birgit; Estévez, Elisabet; Male, MarkusDespite its many drawbacks, clone & own is still frequently used for control software development in the domain of automated Production Systems (aPSs). However, this procedure leads to a high amount of so-called legacy software variants, which are usually unmanaged and, thus, difficult to maintain or reuse. To facilitate the reuse of existing software, this paper presents a model-based approach for documentation, configuration, and derivation of IEC 61131-3 compliant control software. Thereby, the required models are stored in a NoSQL database and represent the structure and the variability of the considered aPS from a functional viewpoint. A visualization of the variability in the style of a Software Product Line, which is commonly used in the informatics domain for the development of variant-rich systems, enables the user to configure a variant and the respective IEC 61131-3 compliant control software is generated automatically through model transformations. The developed concept is evaluated with a prototypically implemented web application and the control software variants of a laboratory demonstrator. Thereby, the web application supports the integration of variants from existing legacy software into the database model.Ítem Objetos de aprendizaje multimedia en asignaturas de grado en ingeniería: Videocast, Screencast(XVII Congreso Internacional EDUTEC, 2014-11-12) Aguilar-Peña, Juan Domingo; Rus-Casas, Catalina; Peña-Hita, María de los ÁngelesEn esta comunicación presentamos varios videopodcasts elaborados en la Escuela Politécnica Superior de la Universidad de Jaén, dentro de proyectos de innovación docente (videos didácticos, sobre temas específicos concretos, tanto de teoría como de prácticas, grabaciones de clase on line, grabaciones de seminarios con Adobe Connect, screencast sobre algunos programas informáticos…) que servirán como complemento para asignaturas del Grado en Ingeniería Electrónica Industrial, que se imparten en la Universidad de Jaén. La idea es contribuir a la incorporación de una nueva cultura docente que suponga cambios metodológicos, el desarrollo de competencias y la introducción de las TIC, de acuerdo con las directrices del EEES, potenciando el trabajo autónomo del alumno y ayudando a la comprensión de algunos conceptos relacionados con la electrónica. Se comenta la importancia de este recurso didáctico, el videocast, en la docencia universitaria y, a su vez el proceso y materiales necesarios para su elaboración.
