El estudio del poder a través de los expedientes de hábito de las Órdenes Militares en la comarca Sur de Jaén (siglos XVI y XVII). Nuevas perspectivas.

Abstract

A través del estudio de los expedientes de hábito de las Órdenes Militares, pretendemos acercarnos a los mecanismos de ascenso y representación social existentes en los siglos XVI y XVII en la provicia de Jaén. Para ello, ha sido necesario establecer una perspectiva de estudio que, partiendo de un nuevo enfoque metodológico, permita conocer cuáles fueron los protagonistas que se encuentran detrás del procedimiento, desde el inicio, hasta llegar un pretendiente a convertirse en caballero de una determinada orden militar. La realidad existente demuestra cómo, poder, honor y familia eran las claves que llevaban a un determinado personaje a cruzarse con la tan ansiada venera, que por otro lado, se transmitía de generación en generación como si de una heredad se tratase, siempre y cuando se hubiese servido a la corona de la forma adecuada.

Through the study of the expedients of habit of the Military Orders, we intend to approach the mechanisms of social promotion and representation existing in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in the province of Jaén. For this, it has been necessary to establish a perspective of study that, starting from a new methodological approach, allow knowing who the protagonists were behind the procedure, from the beginning, until an applicant became a knight of a particular military order. The existing reality shows how power, honor, and family were the keys that led to a certain personage to cross himself with the longed “venera”, which, on the other hand, was transmitted from generation to generation as if it were an inheritance, provided that the crown had been properly served.
