LA CARACTERIZACIÓN DE PERSONAJES EN LA ÓPERA A TRAVÉS DEL ARQUETIPO DE MEFISTÓFELES

Abstract

Esta tesis surge como consecuencia de la inexistencia de estudios que analicen de forma rigurosa la importancia de la caracterización en la ópera. Para ello haremos uso del diablo como personaje. Planteamos como hipótesis que la evolución estética que ha experimentado la caracterización se ve influida por el ámbito geográfico y el nivel del teatro donde tiene lugar la representación. El teatro ha hecho uso reiterado de los arquetipos, uno de los más empleados es el diablo, siendo el más recurrente Mefistófeles (antagonista en el mito de Fausto), llevado a la ópera por diversos compositores, como Berlioz, Gounod o Boito, en los que basaremos nuestro trabajo. Realizaremos un recorrido temático y diacrónico por las facetas del diablo en la música, la literatura y las artes plásticas. Asimismo, sirviéndonos de material gráfico y videográfico analizaremos las óperas en las que aparece Mefistófeles y la evolución estética e iconográfica que ha experimentado hasta nuestros días.

This thesis arises as a consequence of the lack of studies that rigorously analyze the importance of characterization in opera. For this we will use the devil as a character. We hypothesize that the aesthetic evolution experienced by the characterization is influenced by the geographical area and the level of the theater where the representation takes place. The theater has made repeated use of archetypes, one of the most used is the devil, the most recurrent being Mephistopheles (antagonist in the Faust myth), brought to opera by various composers, such as Berlioz, Gounod or Boito, in the which we will base our work. We will carry out a thematic and diachronic journey through the facets of the devil in music, literature and the plastic arts. Likewise, using graphic and videographic material, we will analyze the operas in which Mephistopheles appears and the aesthetic and iconographic evolution that it has experienced to this day.
