ÓPERA ESPAÑOLA Y EXOTISMO: ABUFAR (1827) DE MANUEL GARCÍA

Abstract

Esta investigación presenta por primera vez el estudio y edición crítica de la ópera Abufar, ossia La famiglia araba (México, Teatro Provisional, 1827) del compositor sevillano Manuel del Pópulo Vicente García con libreto de Felice Romani. Con este análisis buscamos recuperar una pieza importante de nuestro patrimonio musical y aportar un estudio crítico que posibilite una posible puesta en escena de la ópera. Asimismo, tanto la figura del compositor como el libreto se han contextualizado dentro del período mexicano de García. Esta investigación comienza con una revisión y estudio de documentación histórica que incluye la transcripción de la partitura y el libreto de la ópera Abufar de Manuel García. Esta Tesis Doctoral se divide en una introducción y dos capítulos. El primer capítulo trata varios aspectos relacionados con la ópera Abufar, mientras que el segundo presenta la edición crítica de la partitura y el libreto.This research presents for the first time the study and critical edition of the opera Abufar, ossia La famiglia araba (Mexico, Teatro Provisional, 1827) by the Sevillian composer Manuel del Pópulo Vicente García with a libretto by Felice Romani. With this analysis we seek to recover an important piece of our musical heritage and provide a critical study that enables an eventual staging of the opera. Likewise, both the figure of the composer and the libretto have been contextualized withing Garcia’s Mexican period. This analysis begins with a review and study of historical documentation including the transcription of the score and the libretto of the opera Abufar by Manuel García. This Doctoral Thesis is divided in an introduction and two chapters. The first chapter deals with various aspects related to the opera Abufar, while the second chapter presents the critical edition of the score and the libretto.
