LA RELACIÓN DEL DISCURSO DE GÉNERO CON LA NOVELA SOBRE EL CONFLICTO NORIRLANDÉS: DEIRDRE MADDEN, DAVID PARK, ANNA BURNS Y MATT MCGUIRE

Abstract

Teniendo en cuenta la inevitable relación entre literatura y contexto material y que los creadores literarios pueden contribuir – bien consciente o inconscientemente – al afianzamiento o subversión de la realidad, con esta disertación pretendemos analizar el papel de los estudios de género en la literatura producida dentro de un contexto como el de la Irlanda del Norte del conflicto que estallara a finales de la década de los años sesenta del siglo pasado y que todavía perdura. Los creadores seleccionados comparten contexto sociopolítico, pero afrontan desde diferentes posiciones las cuestiones relacionadas con el género. Lo que nos proponemos es estudiar cómo estos autores han desarrollado procesos textuales, directamente relacionados con lo material y lo político, de construcción de identidades (hegemónicas, subalternas, masculinas, femeninas, estereotipadas, etc.) y cómo se relacionan con los discursos hegemónicos de género, bien refrendando, bien subvirtiendo posturas patriarcales tradicionales – o ambas cosas al mismo tiempo.Taking into account the unavoidable relationship between Literature and material context, and that literary creators may contribute – either consciously or unconsciously – to the reinforcement or subversion of reality, our aim with this dissertation is to analyse the role that gender studies have played in the literature produced within such a specific and complex context like that of the Northern Irish conflict, which flared at the end of the 1960s but is still ongoing. The authors selected in this work share the same socio-political context, but face gender issues from different perspectives. What we intend is to study how these authors have developed several textual processes – directly related to the material and the political – in order to build identities (hegemonic, subaltern, masculine, feminine, stereotyped, etc.) and how they relate to hegemonic discourses about gender, either supporting or subverting traditional patriarchal positions – or both things at the same time.
