THE EFFECTS OF CLIL ON L1, L2, AND SUBJECT CONTENT: A QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE INVESTIGATION

Abstract

El presente estudio pretende evaluar de manera longitudinal la implementación del Aprendizaje Integrado de Contenidos y Lenguas Extranjeras (AICLE) en centros de Primaria y Secundaria de la provincia de Jaén, desde una perspectiva cualitativa y cuantitativa. En primer lugar, mediante la realización de entrevistas semi-estructuradas y la utilización de cuestionarios, se han recogido las opiniones que tanto padres, profesores y alumnos tienen sobre el programa bilingüe, lo cual nos ha permitido desarrollar un análisis DAFO sobre el Plan Estratégico de Desarrollo de las Lenguas en Andalucía. En la parte cuantitativa, se ha evaluado el impacto del AICLE en la lengua materna (castellano), la lengua extranjera (inglés) y el contenido (Ciencias) y se ha analizado si el hecho de pertenecer a una sección bilingüe produce diferencias estadísticamente significativas con respecto a los grupos no-bilingües en las precitadas tres materias. De igual forma, se ha comprobado si los efectos ejercidos por AICLE continúan en Bachillerato, una vez que el programa se ha discontinuado.

The present longitudinal study aims at evaluating CLIL implementation in Primary and Secondary Education centres situated in the province of Jaén, from a qualitative and a quantitative point of view. Firstly, stakeholders’ perspectives on bilingual programmes have been collected by means of questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, which has allowed us to develop a SWOT analysis of the Strategic Plan for the development of languages in Andalusia. In the quantitative side of the project, the impact that CLIL exerts on L1, L2 and subject content learning has been evaluated, analysing if statistically significant differences arise when comparing the results of CLIL and non-CLIL students. In the same vein, we have analysed if such effects pervade six months after the programme has been discontinued, when the pupils are in the first grade of Baccalaureate.
